Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) or Ortho-K Contact Lenses
By Dr. Jennifer Hsieh
Hard contact lenses with a customized curvature design that flattens the cornea while people sleep at night wearing these lenses. These lenses correct nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism to allow adequate vision without having to wear glasses or contact lenses during the day. This is a reversible, non-surgical procedure and studies have found potential beneficial effect on slowing down the progression of nearsightedness with these lenses. Therefore, young patients with progressing prescription are good candidate for theses contact lenses. These patients will also be glasses-free during the day which can be ideal for playing certain sports. Wearing CRT lenses is similar to wearing dental braces, which reshape and strengthen the eyes/teeth.
